LMC03: WILD SHADOW-Bound to be Free - Demos Anthology 86-92 CD (Limited edition of 300 copies)
From Lisbon came Wild Shadow. The band was formed by three friends in the beginning of 1985: Paulo "Grande" drums, Aquiles "Quinito" rhythm guitar and José Gomes vocals. None of them learned to play with anyone... it was all by ear. Many bass and solo guitar players went through the line-up and many rehearsal rooms have been tried from Praça do Chile/ Penha de França to rooms in Olivais. In 1986 Paulo joins as bass player. In late 1986 with a stable line up and a regular rehearsal room/ studio (Hipolab) in Paço de Arcos, the quartet recorded their first demo tape, in just 4 tracks. The sound engineer was Paulo Godinho. However the sound was poor. The demo contained tracks as "Fight For Your Life", "Before The End", "Wild Shadow". The band continued to rehearse in this room/ studio and with this line-up. In late 1987 came to the group Lafayette as lead guitar. Finally in 1988, in the same rehearsal room/ studio, same sound engineer, with these line up Paulo, Aquiles, Zé, Paulo and Lafayette a 2nd demo was recorded. "Restless Run", "The Hope/ Sweet Desire", "New Order Merchants" and "Bound To Be Free" were part of the demo. These two demos were sent to only two or three publishers, but the band never got any response. They never sent to any zine and might have been made three or four recordings for close friends. Also they did a radio interview in 1988, at a Metal radio show in a pirate radio, Lisbon area. The problems in the band were diverse and in 1990 Zé Gomes leaves, almost one month before their 1st live performance, that would be at the Rock Rendez Vous on February 18th, opening for Alkateya. Zé Gomes as he was very friendly of João Henrique (ex-STS PARANOID) asked him to sing in is place. João did what he could do to learn the lyrics in three or four rehearsals and putting his own melodies, improving to an heavier and also melodic sound. That same gig would be the last metallic session at the Rock Rendez Vous. After João Henrique leaving, bassist Paulo also abandoned the group. They were replaced by Gabriel "Gabi" vocals and Fernando bass. A 3rd demo was recorded in late 1991/early 92, with the five elements in a 24-track studio. The tracks were "Shadow Of Death", "Winds Of Freedom", "Bound To Be Free" and "Victim Of Society". The demo was sent to several publishers but again no response. João Carlos replaces Lafayette and they play for the last time at a band contest in Graça, Lisbon. At the end of the contest, the unexpected happened, the band was disqualified for excessive ages. They decided to end in late 1993.
This third volume of the L.M.C. collection, compiles all the demos and the live songs recorded in 1990 with STS Paranoid singer João Henrique. Presented in a 16 page booklet with many rare photos and detailed band history plus lyrics, this is an absolute testimony of a great unknown band from Portugal who emulated their influences mainly from 80's U.S. Power Metal bands like Jag Panzer, Helstar and Metal Church. Remastered by Mario Rodrigues (ex-Unsilent/KarbonSoul/Projekt Noir).
Portuguese band Valium formed back in 1982 and are surelly one of the many lost Portuguese 80's Metal treasures. They recorded their first demos in 1986, where at the time they had a strong and dark Heavy Metal influence refined by bands such as Manowar, Iron Maiden and Mercyful Fate. By 1988, they became more influenced by the American Melodic Metal scene when they changed name to Casablanca and under that name they recorded 3 albums from 1990 to 1999, another in 2002 and a 7" in 1993. A few years later, they disbanded. This band is considered among the true Metal fans in Portugal, heroes of the underground, spending three decades against the grain, ignoring trends and making pure Heavy Metal music. The core members are the three inseparable brothers Joao, Jose and Jorge Figueira, who formed the band back in 1982 and still are Hard Rock/Metal fans to the present day. Remastered edition with thick booklet full of rare photos, memorabilia, biography and lyrics. Enter Valium: one the the best 80's Heavy Metal bands from Portugal!
Considered one of the best Portuguese Metal bands ever, this band started out in 1984, but only in 1987 they recorded their first demo "Born to Die", with four studio tracks. After a while in 1988, one memorable concert was recorded on audio and video bootleg, to spread around for the fans. The audio and video still today is being shared nationally and internationally by fans of the band and curious headbangers. This anthology will include the full gig along with the demo, since the live sound is very good, which many even consider better than their demo, and a two-song rare rehearsal. This is the early stage of V12 with first singer Raf Maya, very influenced by Manowar, in fact the band at this stage can be compared to a mix of early Helloween, Manowar and even Manilla Road! Their epic approach makes sense comparing with the last two bands and even some Maiden from the Piece of Mind-era. The faster songs have an obvious early Helloween influence but also early Metallica/Slayer. This is absolute steel of the highest order: Power-Speed Metal with heroic high pitch vocals! This is an old project that only this year will finally see the light of day: Originally intended as a reissue with the Raf Maya (first singer) era, this suddenly extended to the second era (Jorge Martins on vocals, the one in the full lenght vinyl recorded in 1990). Since for legal reasons is nearly impossible to take off the album of the greedy Universal Music offices and reissue to the headbangers out there, we decided to include a very rare promotion gig of the album recorded in 1990 on the same place the live 1988 with Raf Maya of vocals was recorded: Rock Rendez Vous, the mythical venue in Lisbon, where lots of Metal bands played throughout the 80's. This performance is brutal, revealing the true power and heaviness of the songs on the album (the studio recording for the album was too clean and thin sounding), theres also two unreleased tracks on the live show which makes this mandatory for any V12 fan! For those who don't know, this second era of the band turns into a more technical Power Metal direction influenced mainly by late 80s Maiden, Fates Warning and early Queensrïche. Presented in a 20 page booklet full of rare photos, biography, lyrics, memorabilia and liner notes by F.J. Dias from Blood & Iron Records. Split release with Metal Soldiers & Guardians of Metal.
